Course Objective

This Masters in Human Resources Management programme covers the key areas of the subject from a theoretical aspect while grounding it to the realities of today’s world of work.

HRM is one of the key contributors within organisations, similar to other functions such as finance and information technology in view of the critical role that people play. Therefore, professional HRM is critical. Given that today’s organisations operate within a constantly evolving competitive environment owing to changing economic, financial, demographic, and political landscapes, this course will help students acquire critical and comprehensive knowledge and insights.

In addition, students will develop critical HRM competences and adopt a multidisciplinary approach in areas related to talent acquisition, reward, people development, leadership, and engagement. Employee relations and wellbeing will be a critical aspect which in which students will acquire competence together with their specialised ability to contribute to an organisation’s performance management system as well as, coaching and mentoring. The research aspect covered in the course will be crucial for students as it will enable them to critically analyse data and information in their decision-making situations and recommendations.

In the final analysis, students will be able to adopt a multi-disciplinary, objective, strategic and tactical mindset to serve as valid and key contributors to their respective organisations from a HRM perspective.

Learners wishing to pursue a career in human resources management (HRM) or others who are already working in HR and wish to consolidate their knowledge and competence through a formal related academic qualification at this level.

This course will also be of interest to those working in other areas but wish to acquire knowledge at this level on the subject owing to their management/leadership positions whose role involves a significant people management component.

It should be noted that the proposed course aims to prepare students to be better prepared when seeking such jobs but does not offer any guarantees in this regard.

• A first degree at MQF Level 6 in HRM, business studies or any other subject (minimum second-class honours) and having a good command of English (written and spoken) – Minimum C1.

OR

• Mature/Adult Learning Student (must be twenty-three when course starts) subject to an interview by the Head of the Academy. Interview process will take into consideration the quality of the experience of the candidates as well as their command of English Language.

• Candidates having formally achieved an award at MQF Level 7 from a recognised educational institution in any one or more of the modules covered in this course and whose Learning Outcomes are similar, may be given exemptions up to a total maximum of 18 ECTS ie. 2 modules. The learning outcomes from the awards achieved from other institutions will be assessed by the Head of the Academy to ensure that these are indeed similar, before awarding any exemptions.

Assessment will be based on assignments, portfolios, presentations, reflective notes, practical coaching sessions and the final project assessment.

  1. Develop a critical understanding of the key areas of HRM and how these impact on the performance of an organisation.
  2. Critically evaluate and apply HRM theoretical knowledge to make informed decisions in support of the overall effective management within an organisation.
  3. Critically analyse contemporary trends and trajectories to align initiatives and actions accordingly.
  4. Develop HRM specialised knowledge through comprehensive research carried out in a specific aspect of HRM to contribute to the development of ideas and solve problems.
  5. Utilise an HR framework developed for HR practitioners to take informed decisions based on evidence and data.
  6. Communicate with specialist and non-specialist audiences at different levels on the critical aspects of HRM.
  7. Apply mastery of HRM principles and practices within the context of an organisation’s and global realities.
  8. Manage effectively, develop, plan, and implement key HRM functions within organisations.
Accreditations
The Malta Further and Higher Education Authority deems this Masters to be at Level 7 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
