Online Sustainability – ESG Environmental Social Governance Leading Sustainable Schools – an online course prepared and led by Ms Ruth Mansueto Assistant Head at Mater Boni Consilii St Joseph Paola, supported by HSBC Malta Foundation and 21 Academy.
Environmental education has long been established in many schools. Nevertheless, the pandemic of the Coronavirus 19 has made us acutely more aware of how vital it is to safeguard our planet, augmenting the need to educate for sustainability. As (ESG) environmental social governance gathers momentum in the business world, it makes sense to take school governance to another level and implement ESG practices to support sustainable practices in schools.
The online course ESG Environmental Social Governance Leading Sustainable Schools– looks at the value of ESG for businesses and organizations and the implications of transferring such practices to augment good governance in schools and educational institutions.
HSBC Malta Foundation in Malta has supported the Eko Skola Programme of various schools, and which has been running since 2002. It has provided schools with support and opportunities to improve the environment and live more sustainably. Mater Boni Consilii St Joseph School Paola joined the Eko Skola programme in 2003 and has since then been awarded the Green Flag for 8 consecutive times. In this context, in collaboration with HSBC Malta Foundation and 21 Academy, this online course investigates, how school leaders, have a vital role to play, in the implementation of sustainable schools. Furthermore, empowering the students and cultivating a sustainable mindset is vital to enable the young to become agents of change, encouraging others to live sustainably.
The HSBC Malta Foundation has supported schools and provided them with opportunities to improve the environment and operate more sustainably for years. As HSBC Bank Malta is committed to reducing emissions across its operations and aims to become a net-zero bank by 2030, it believes that environmental education in schools is of crucial importance. Environmental social governance (ESG) has proven to bring many benefits to the business landscape, which mind-set can also significantly improve the operation of schools. We hope that this material will serve to generate the right conversations around ESG.
Educators who successfully complete the course will also be presented with a certificate.
