On the 12 July Government announced that as from the coming 2 August, the EU Directive on work-life balance will be transposed in Maltese Law. This will be done through subsidiary legislation which was published on the 13 July 2022.

Government announced that the new legislation will include

  • 10 days of paid leave will be given to fathers at the birth of their child.
  • Split Parental Leave – 2 months will be paid and 2 months will be unpaid.
  • Workers who are caring for loved ones can now take carers’ leave.
  • For the first eight years of a child’s existence, parents may ask for flexible work schedules.

As from the 2nd August 2022, the new Work-Life Balance for Parents and Carers Regulations will come into force, implementing the Work-Life Balance for parents and carers Directive (Directive 2019/1158).

During this 60-minute webinar, the new rights introduced by these Regulations will be discussed, mainly paternal leave, paid parental leave and carers’ leave. These rights will give rise to new Human Resources Management challenges as well as to Payroll administration and potential issues of processing of new personal data.

These entitlements and their impact on both Human Resources Management and Payroll will be explained further by employment lawyer Dr Christine Calleja and data protection lawyer Dr Warren Ciantar during this 60-minute webinar.
