Course Objective

The Undergraduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety provides a professional introductory program of study. The overall goal of the study programme is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify workplace hazards, assess risks, and develop effective strategies for
preventing accidents, injuries, and illnesses in various industries and occupations.

It may also be a pathway for the higher-level degrees such as Bachelor in Occupational Health and Safety. This Occupational Health and Safety
programme has been developed in conjunction with industry needs to address the complex nature of occupational health and safety at the workplace. The
specialised knowledge and skills developed throughout the course will allow participants to confidently address the complex nature of workplace issues.

It also addresses the knowledge vacuum to those individuals who are assigned to undertake the role of a supervisor or the equivalent in the construction
industry.

  • Design in carrying out risk assessments
  • Carry out risk assessment for construction activities
  • Identify causes of accidents and recommend preventive measures
  • Formulate the elements of a health and safety management system and understand their role in monitoring health and safety standards on site.

Applicants must be in possession of at least a matriculation certification (MQF Level 4) or A Level equivalent.

Accreditations
The Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) deems this Diploma to be at Level 5 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.The study programme is also recognised by the OHSA as being a qualification that enables the successful graduate to be entered into the OHSA register of competent persons, which lists persons competent to give advice on matters related to occupational health and safety. This occurs after the relevant work experience, which is currently 2 years, is achieved.
