Course Objective

This study programme aims to tackle a niche in the local market preparing students to assess and modify the office environment, in particular the workstation to make it suitable for the needs of employees.

This course will tackle ergonomics from a biopsychosocial perspective putting the needs of the individual first; to understand and offer the support required for them to carry out their task whilst safeguarding their well-being.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be in a unique position to understand and suggest work-stations that are more suitable for the needs of each individual.

This course will have a direct influence on increasing the well-being and productivity of office based workers

Who should attend?

Any person who wishes to understand ergonomics particularly HR Managers, Project Managers, Interior/Office Designers, Furniture and Office Equipment Designers and Health & Safety Officers.

An MQF Level 4 qualification related to sciences or at least 2 years’ experience working in Human Resources or in an Executive/Supervisory/Managerial position or in furniture design.

In accordance with the Academy’s Recognition of Prior Learning Policy

Participants will be asked to submit 1 assignment.

At the end of the study programme the participants will be able to:

  • understand the needs of different tasks carried out whilst sitting at a workstation
  • able to understand and acknowledge the importance of short and long term effects of poor sitting posture and how different tasks require different workstation arrangements.
  • able to comprehend the physical and psychological signs that can be attributed to poor workstation ergonomics.
  • able to suggest ergonomic strategies and refer to appropriate professionals to ensure the well-being of the employee.
  • identify and suggest strategies and solutions in relation to observations and feedback obtained from employees pertaining to office and home workstations to promote both productivity and well-being of the individual
  • grasp the nature of ergonomincs related complaint and suggest an action plan to address the ergonomic shortcomings.
  • gather relevant information in relation to work station ergonomics and present them in a coherent manner to his team and relevant professionals
Accreditations
The Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) deems this Award to be at Level 5 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
